I teach middle school computer education as an elective. We concentrate on Microsoft Office; Word, PowerPoint and Excel. Towards the end of the year we do some digital movie editing.

When introducing a new skill/application the students are asked to turn off their monitors and watch the overhead as I demonstrate the skill to the entire class. If the skill is too complicated I spread the instruction over a few class periods. After learning the students are assigned project that is fun, exciting, meaningful and relevant, that will develop and reinforce the newly acquired skills. Projects are completed either individually or in groups and presented to the whole class.

Internet search and research is also incorporated into the various assignments and projects.

My teaching methods are simple and the atmosphere in my room relaxed, and most of my lessons are project based. The noise level is high but so is the amount of learning going on.

I consider myself very fortunate to teach something that almost all kids are happy and eager to learn, I consider myself even more fortunate to be taught something new everyday.

My students like to learn something new everyday. So do I. We learn together.
