OBJECTIVES: To become familiar with a particular destination and to present information in the form of a brochure and a multimedia presentation

TOPIC: Using the Internet, MS PowerPoint to create a presentation and MSWord to create a brochure on a travel destination.

DURATION: 10 (one hour) class periods

II. Applications. 6. use age appropriate multimedia authoring software that incorporates text, sound, video, transitions and images to create a non-linear presentation on a selected topic.
 

MATERIALS:

Ø    computer controlled projection system or overhead projector

Ø    internet access

Ø    index cards and writing utensils

Ø    computer for each student (may also be done in groups or pairs)

Ø    Microsoft OFFICE program installed in computers

Ø    handouts

ACTIVITIES: Students will be in their cooperative groups discussing and choosing their destination.

Computer activity:

Handouts: requirements, internet sources and rubric.

Start up internet and begin research.

Create storyboard on index cards.

Start up MS PowerPoint and begin creating presentation.

Have students follow guidelines from handout.

The teacher will walk around the room and answer individual questions.

When the students have finished their presentation they will shoe it to the class using the presentation system.

When presentation is complete students may begin brochure. Final presentations will be presented to the whole class.

 
CLOSURE: Discuss the travel destinations and all aspects of travel and destination itself.. Discuss the presentation itself. Were all required elements (as per rubric) present.
 
EVALUATION AAND ASSESSMENT: Students should be able find reliable sources on the internet to conduct research. They should be able to create a PowerPoint presentation from information gathered following the guidelines on the handout. They should score at least 80% on the multimedia rubric.
 
EXTENSIONS:

Create a bar graph showing daily expenditures of travel.

Create a brochure or PowerPoint presentation about your city complete with customs, history, geography, points of interest and photographs.

Design a mascot and logo your destination/travel agency.

Keep a travel journal.

Create a travel itinerary,

Design an airline ticket/boarding pass.

Make a list of items needed.

Currency exchange.
