Committees/Volunteering

For the 2012-2013 school year, the PTA has created 16 committees. Below you will find a description of each committee.

1. Harvest Festival

Description: This will be the sixth year of this wonderful family fun fair favorite, featuring mechanical games, booth games, music, food and lots of good memories to be made. Volunteers can help with all the many aspects of organizing the event, selling tickets, or helping during the festival to make our biggest event a success.

2. Scholastic Book Fair

Description: This is a student-teacher favorite event promoting the joy and importance of reading. Scholastic Books provides us with all the material we need as well as the books to sell; a percentage of the revenues will go towards our school library. Volunteers can help with the set-up of books in the library a day before the event, help with sales, and pick-up after the event.

3. Sports-A-Thon

Description: A student favorite event held during school hours, focused on health and exercise. Students participate in fun healthy sports drills. Volunteers will help with preparation of pledge envelopes that are sent home, organizing raffle tickets, setting up exercise stations and helping during the event.

4. Dinner Dance

Description: A parent-teacher favorite and one of our major fundraisers. Volunteers help plan this grown-up evening of dinner and dancing with an exciting silent and live auction.

5. Student of the Month Elementary & Middle School

Description: Each month every teacher recognizes one of her/his students who embodies a distinctive value. Volunteers can help collect nomination forms from teachers, send invitations to families, take student pictures to set up the Student of the Month bulletin board and help set up the well-deserved breakfast for this outstanding group of kids and their families.

6. Talent Show

Description: Volunteers can help with the planning and production of this event, which showcases some real and really adorable talent from our wonderful students.

7. Honor Roll, Assembly and Graduation

Description: Help plan these special events and make them the memorable moments they become as our children are rewarded for their hard work and dedication. Volunteers organize the ceremonial honor roll events for each grading period and the final awards ceremony at the end of the year.

8. KBCS Horticulture Committee

Description: The goal is to expose and teach our students about how food is grown in our own garden. Volunteers can help by giving garden tours to classes, cooking with produce from our garden, maintaining raised garden beds (weeding, watering, planting) and composting.

9. Bulletin Board Decoration

Description: Every month the general PTA and Student of the Month bulletin boards need to be decorated according to the appropriate theme. We are looking for volunteers who can help come up with ideas and decorate our bulletin board in the Main Office hallway.

10. Recycling

Description: A committee dedicated to helping us help our environment while making money for our school. Volunteers can help with the in-school collecting and processing of recyclable items such as empty ink cartridges, BoxTops for Education and others.

11. Nominating of the PTA Board

Description: This committee will organize the PTA new board election. Volunteers review PTA candidates' resumes, supervise the screening for the recruitment of new Board Members and conduct the election of the new Board.

When: Election takes place during the month of May.

12. Spring Fund Raiser

Description: This committee will organize a PTA event in Spring. We still have not decided what event it will be but surely enough we will let you know so that you can sign up to help! Don't miss the fun!

13. KBCS Film Festival

Description: This committee will introduce a Film Festival in our school. More information to follow.

14. Lighthouse Run

Description: This committee will help organize the Annual Lighthouse run on the Key. This event takes place outside the school and volunteers are needed to help setup the race, guide the runners etc.. A portion of the race's profits is donated to our school so let us all help out!.

15. Father's Club

Description: This committee will gather the school dads!. Come and join us, we have many ideas in store!

16. Box Tops

Description: This committee will collect BoxTops for education in a very organized way! We need volunteers to help sort, count and organize BoxTops to be able to receive their funding!
