Key Biscayne Community School was founded
in 1952. It is a MDCPS Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade Learning
Center and currently serves over 1000 students. The school is
in the Coral Gables Feeder Pattern. The community school offers
a variety of classes for children and adults with an After School
Child Care Program.
Located on the island of Key Biscayne,
it is eight miles from downtown Miami. The island's warm climate,
wealth of business opportunities, close proximity to Miami and
small town flavor attract residents from approximately thirty
countries.
It is against this textured backdrop that
the Key Biscayne Community School faculty and staff prepare
students with various levels of language proficiency, different
cultures, and an uneven base of general knowledge for the future.
The curriculum at Key Biscayne Community
School provides a cohesive, focused foundation and direction
for the academic achievement and advancement of all students.
It meshes two compatible components which emphasize student
performance-based learning, both in the classroom and real
world: the Dade County Public Schools' Competency Based Curriculum,
Core Knowledge and a dual theme focus of business and environment.
Our schoolwide integrated curriculum innovations have resulted
in our receiving various grants and awards.
